Following international river conservationist, Mark Angelo, RiverBlue spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world’s most pollutive industries, fashion. Narrated by clean water supporter Jason Priestley, this groundbreaking documentary examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future.
Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and the irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, one of our favourite iconic products has destroyed rivers and impacted the lives of people who count on these waterways for their survival. RiverBlue brings awareness to the destruction of some of the world’s most vital rivers through the manufacturing of our clothing, but will also act as a demand for significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference. The resource then explores the environmental impact of textile production in Bangladesh, and shows how the true cost of cheap textiles is being felt by the very poorest living downstream from polluting textile factories. Many factors influence the design of products, systems or environments. Designers must consider how these factors will have an impact on their eventual users, environments and the wider world. Designers have to use materials sympathetically and consider the conflicting demands that moral, cultural, economic, and social values and needs can have in the planning and in the designing of products. In six independent chapters, this program explores the influences that culture, subculture, egalitarianism, global society, hedonism, and sustainability have on design. Packed with engaging imagery and real-life examples, this program will stimulate viewers to think about the influences on their design work. Show Less

The aim of this programme is to introduce a variety of textile materials used by designers when making their products.
The programme describes the characteristics and properties of fibres, fabrics and yarns and how designers use this information to help them make decisions regarding the most appropriate and suitable materials for an end product.
Students should develop an understanding of the classification of fibres, fabrics and yarns and how designers take a number of factors into consideration when choosing suitable materials.
This programme will demonstrate how designers test the suitability of materials and the impact of health, safety, social and environmental concerns when choosing materials.
The programme should demonstrate how designers choose and use fibres, fabrics and yarns in their end products. There should be lots of visual examples of materials from their origin to their manufacture into fabric and the end product. It should also demonstrate the importance of the fibres characteristics and properties and how they are tested and how they influence end choice. Show Less
