Care Values

Care is often thought of as falling into two categories – health and social service provision. Health care is medically driven, while social service delivery is about providing people with the emotional, practical and sometimes economic support to live lives as normal as possible within the community. Care values, including confidentiality, non-discrimination and equal opportunity, empathy and empowerment are essential for workers in different areas of service provision. Laws and regulations, as well as organisational policies, procedures and ethical standards underpin the effective delivery of all care and support services. This film examines a number of aspects of care values. Expert comments are provided by Professor Julia Twigg from the University of Kent, and Sue Green from The Fremantle Trust. It is an informative and engaging resource for students of courses relating to health and social service provision, as well a useful professional development tool for those working in the care sector.
