In 2019 ClickView is celebrating the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements – 150 years after Dmitri Mendeleev discovered the periodic system – with the release of The Periodic Games. A re-imagining of John Davis’ seminal 1995 program Atoms and Their Electrons, The Periodic Games takes a unique and entertaining look at atomic structure and bonding.

Meeting the Tributes: Elements 1-18

When Chlorine Everclean voluntarily takes her sister’s place in The 75th Periodic Games, hosts Titanium Alloy and Caesium Lepton are taken by surprise! Chlorine isn’t as strong a contender as her little sister Fluorine, and the other 17 tributes are fierce competition. In this first episode, we meet the tributes offered by every group of the periodic table as they prepare to do battle in the Laboratoria.

This two-part series follows the selection and training regime of 18 atoms who have been offered by their group in the periodic settlement as tributes in the 75th Periodic Games, a brutal TV event broadcast by the Capitol across the districts.

Amongst the supporting print resources that accompany the series for teaching pupils of KS3, students have the opportunity to shape the sequel to the series! In the interdisciplinary resource, The Biggest Reaction, students must decide which two elements they would like to see go head-to-head for the most explosive reaction. In this challenge, they must demonstrate their understanding of the elements’ properties and how they would react when bonded with other elements, as well as show their skills in storytelling through whatever media they choose. An excellent opportunity for a whole-school or whole-class competition, which can be judged by the whole school community

Training Day: Covalent and Ionic Bonding

The start of The Periodic Games is just a day away. As attraction sparks between Chlorine and Sodium, President H2O fears that their new bond could incite revolution. Meanwhile, the other tributes are in training, forming covalent bonds that could help them survive in the Laboratoria, where only one atom will be left standing.
