Extracting a video from the ClickView Library Server and burning it to DVD

This article explains the process of extracting a video from the ClickView Library Server and burning it to a DVD. For example purposes we are using Ulead MovieFactory 3 as our DVD authoring software.

This process allows ClickView videos to be distributed to staff or students for DVD playback in the classroom or at home.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the ClickView Library Server, and locate a video that you wish to burn to DVD.

    Note: Only videos that have been recorded under your school's educational recording licence (Screenrights, ERA, etc.) can be extracted and burnt to DVD.

  2. Right-click the video and choose "Extract Video from ClickView Library Server".

  3. A window will appear, here you will have Two Options for extracting the Video Package.

    Untick the 'Export Entire Video to' option and then select the 'Export Individual Files' option by leaving a tick in the selection box.

    If you wish to just extract specific chapters from the video you can tick the boxes corresponding to the video chapters that you wish extract from the library and untick the undesired chapters.

    You can also choose whether you wish to extract a cover image, and the location where you wish the extracted videos to be stored.

    Click the "Extract" button to complete this step.

    The video files are now available for your 3rd party DVD Conversion software, such as Nero 7 and Ulead MovieFactory. The rest of this Article it is based on using the Ulead MovieFactory 3 as the DVD Conversion Software.

    Note: The ClickView software does not provide DVD burning capabilities. Ulead DVD Movie Factory is used purely as an example in this knowledgebase article and support for this software, or any other 3rd party burning applications, cannot be provided by ClickView. Please confirm with your ICT department on what DVD creation software may already be available to you or what you may wish to purchase for this purpose.

  4. Please open the Ulead Moviefactory 3 and and click "Create Video Disc" option.

  5. Choose "DVD" from the "Output Format" menu, followed by "Ok".

  6. Now click "Add video files" from the "Add media" menu.

    Navigate to the location where you extracted the videos from the ClickView Library. Select multiple chapters by holding the 'Shift' key. Then click the "Open" button.

    Each of the chapters has now been added to the timeline at the lower-end of the screen. Drag and drop the chapters around the timeline if they are not in the correct sequence. Click 'Next'.

  7. The following screen allows you to choose the look and feel of the DVD menus by selecting a particular style from the "Menu Template" drop-down list. Then click 'Next'.

  8. Click "Background" and choose "Select a Background Image for This Menu...", once again navigate to the location where you saved the extracted videos, then choose the "Cover Image" and click "Open". This image will be displayed on the menu of the DVD. This step is entirely optional.

  9. Clicking 'Next' will allow you to preview your DVD before you burn it. This option allows you to make changes to the overall DVD without wasting any DVD discs. When you are satisfied with your compilation - click "Next".

  10. Now click "Options" to make changes to the burning process, ie - altering the burning speed. When you have made your selections click the 'Output' icon to begin the DVD burning process.

    The resulting unencrypted DVD can then be distributed amongst students and staff - or archived for back-up purposes.
